As you probably know, you can get a daily brief from Google Home that includes the following optional streams (look under “my day” in the app):
- work commute
- next meeting
What you may not know is that some of these are finicky.
Weather – this one is pretty straight forward. You will get current temperature and forecast based on your location.
Work Commute – make sure to setup your home and work addresses for this to work.
Next meeting – OK, this is where it gets interesting. As expected, the primary account associated with GH will be used. Your daily brief will tell you what’s on your calendar today only.
- You will not see any calendars that you are subscribed to or are shared with you.
- You will not be notified of all day events. They must have a start time.
- You cannot add events or edit events by voice.
Reminders – These will pull from reminders created in the Inbox app, Keep, and your Google calendar. You cannot create or edit reminders through Google Home, but you can through your phone’s Google Assistant. Crazy, I know.
News – There are a lot of sources you can choose from in the app. Have fun.
It’s quite frustrating that Google when live with 1/2 baked support for calendar and reminders. They promise more features to come.
A few commands:
You can listen to your daily brief at any time of the day by saying:
“OK Google, what is my daily brief?”
“OK Google, good morning.”
“OK Google, good afternoon.”
“OK Google, good evening.”
“OK Google, skip” – this should take you to the next item in your brief.
